Recently, the completion and commissioning ceremony was successfully held for the first-phase 200-ton-per-year demonstration project—a thousand-ton-level high-performance carbon fiber project—under the E+PC general contracting model undertaken by China National Chemical Engineering Siding Company. This marks the commissioning of China’s first specialized production line for T1000-grade carbon fiber, breaking the country’s reliance on imported high-end carbon fiber and addressing a critical challenge in strategic materials.

High-performance carbon fiber, hailed as the “crown jewel” of new materials, is a critical foundational material for industries such as aerospace, new-energy vehicles, and high-end equipment. Its research and development, as well as its production, directly impact the security, autonomy, and controllability of industrial and supply chains. The T1000-grade carbon fiber produced by this project has a single filament diameter of only 6 to 7 micrometers—less than one-tenth the diameter of a human hair—yet its tensile strength exceeds 6,400 megapascals. Its density is just one-fourth that of steel, yet its strength is more than five times greater. The T1000-grade carbon fiber combines core advantages such as high strength, lightweight design, resistance to extreme temperatures, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, making it truly the “strongest material on Earth.” For example, a single strand of Huayang’s T1000-grade carbon fiber, measuring just 1 meter in length, weighs only 0.5 grams yet can support a load exceeding 200 kilograms. This material finds extensive applications in fields including aerospace, rail transportation, and the low-altitude economy.
